Youtube Music Streaming Alternatives

With the RIAA turning up the heat on video sharing websites like Youtube, they’ve made a potentially harmful mistake; muting their copyrighted videos.  However, as the RIAA obviously hasn’t learned yet, when you take down one major site, numerous websites with he same business model take their place.  While the following music streaming websites aren’t new, they are a great alternative to Youtube.

Imeem

While this site has been around for only a little while and is probably the best in terms of music, it’s still a great site for free music streaming.  Imeem has a large variety of free streamble music, as well as videos and pictures of the artists.  The sound quality is much better than Youtube, and you can even make play lists.  The only downside is while listening to a song, they have a popup basically forcing you to register.  In my opinion, it’s worth it.

Songza

Songza is a largely ajax music player that streams music from various websites.  An obvious downside is a lot of them come directly from Youtube.  However, their interface is very well put together.  You can browse songs while looking through and searching for new songs to listen to.

Other video streaming websites

There are also tons of other video streaming sites that have been around for years.  Here’s a quick list where you can get all your audio needs:

Dailymotion
MetaCafe
Vimeo
Blip.tv
Veoh

While this new move certainly isn’t Youtubes fault, it seems they could come up with a better way to deal with the situation. Perhaps giving a percentage of the profits to record labels for those particular videos? This move is hurting end users more than anything, while most likely not effecting record company profits what so ever.
